NSS -
Network Security Services:
NSS is a
set of libraries designed to support cross-platform
development of security-enabled client and server
applications. NSS provides a complete open-source
implementation of crypto libraries supporting SSL and
S/MIME
2G:
Second-Generation wireless telephone technology.
Our services on 2G were embraced by consumers for
several reasons.
-
The lower powered radio signals require less
battery power, so phones last much longer
between charges, and batteries can be smaller.
-
The digital voice encoding allowed digital error
checking which could increase sound quality by
reducing dynamic and lowering the noise floor.
-
The lower power emissions helped address health
concerns.
-
Going all-digital allowed for the introduction
of digital data services, such as SMS and email
3G:
3G is the third generation of mobile phone standards and
technology, superseding 2G. It is based on the
International Telecommunication Union (ITU) family of
standards under the International Mobile
Telecommunications programme, "IMT-2000".
Advantage of 3G:
Unlike GSM, UMTS is based on layered services. At the
top is the services layer, which provides fast
deployment of services and centralized location. In the
middle is the control layer, which helps upgrading
procedures and allows the capacity of the network to be
dynamically allocated. At the bottom is the connectivity
layer where any transmission technology can be used and
the voice traffic will transfer over ATM/AAL2 or IP/RTP
OMCR:
Operation & Maintenance Center Platform - Radio Part
(OMC-R) provides an easy-to-use graphical human-machine
interface based on a multi-windowing environment in
order to deliver effective control and supervision of
elements
Key Features:
-
Configuration Management
-
Fault Management
-
Performance Management
-
Security Management
Technical Specifications:
The operation functions that can be used from an OMC-R
terminal belong to the following functional areas, in
accordance with the TMN principles defined in the CCITT
M.3010 recommendation:
Configuration Management
These functions correspond to the provisioning of the
configuration parameters of the network elements, as
well as the full-centralized management of the software
releases of BSCs, TCUs and BTSs equipment for the BSS
subsystem and PCUs of the GPRS subsystem.
Fault Management
This domain consists of the management of the alarms and
the states of the network elements.
Performance Management
Measurement reports can be managed from the counters'
values generated in the managed network elements.
Call Trace and Call Path Trace functions are also
provided to trace a mobile with its IMSI and to trace
dedicated equipment (cell & TRX).
Security Management
Profiles can be defined at OMC level and at the level of
each managed DMS node in order to control the operating
staff activity.
Hardware Platform:
The OMC-R solution is delivered on a simple, scalable
hardware platform - designed to grow effectively with
the rollout of Wireless services.
The primary Network Management functions are hosted by a
Sun Server (Sun Fire V880 and associated external T3
storage arrays) under Solaris 8 Operating System.
The client workstations supported for management of the
Wireless network consists of Sun Workstations (Solaris
8).
Additional facilities such as a mail facility,
management of command files, and access of the BSS NTP (Nortel
Technical Publications) documentation from a CD-ROM or
the possibility to request execution of O&M commands by
means of a calendar, are also provided in order to make
the operation and maintenance activity more flexible.
The OMC-R provides an easy-to-use graphical
human-machine interface based on a multi-windowing
environment in order to deliver effective control and
supervision of elements.
